simply creative photography
I will do this.
by Amanda on April 2nd, 2011

I'm a few months late, but I have officially been Amanda Kay Memories for a year now!
I have enjoyed this past year. The good and the bad.

Photography has opened my eyes and mind. I see everything differently. I am more honest and accepting of things that I have no control over.

Thank you to everyone who hired me as their photographer. I am so grateful.
A big THANK YOU to all of my family and friends who have supported me in every way. You will never know what it means to me and the smile that you put on my face.
Also I would like to thank two photographers, who I call friends, who have been a tremendous
inspiration to me. Justin Hackworth and Kelli Bramble. Thank you for being patient with me.

I have loved photography for so long, who doesn't? But when I started to get serious about putting myself out there, I thought I had to mold myself into something else. I had to have the best equipment, the latest editing software and the actions that everyone seemed to be using. I wanted to go to all the workshops and felt like a loser because I couldn't/wouldn't spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to attend. I wanted all the cutesy backdrops and props. I thought I needed all that fluff to make a great photograph and to be a "kick ass" photographer. I almost gave up and quit because I wasn't turning into that person. This was the bad.
I had to stop and remember what I wanted. What did I want to see when I looked at my work?
Did I want to think, wow, I am great at Photoshop! No. I wanted honest photographs. To capture the moments that counted and make them as real as I could.
I stopped concerning myself with everyone else. What did they think, why didn't I have 30 comments on my latest session...I must be awful!
I was killing myself and my vision.
Then came the good.

I am okay with what I do.

I have and still do work hard.
I am still learning, but I have learned. I have made some really good photographs. I'm trying to not depend on editing so much, although I edit still, and I am getting better with that as well.

I not give up. Never. EVER!
I will continue to make mistakes, but I will also continue to push myself and set new goals.
I will be here next year.

Thank you all once again for your continued support and inspiration.
I hope you are having the BEST DAY EVER!

Keep doing what you're doing, Amanda, you're on the right track. And you are so right about photography and how it can open your eyes to so many things. Things that have always been in your frame but never quite in focus until you look at them through a camera lens. I get it. I'm seeing it all for the first time myself as well. And it's something special. Good luck and enjoy year two! Can't wait to see how you (we) continue to grow.

Lots of love, Cary
